CAIRO: After two decades away, Egypt is returning to the Olympic games in football. As its senior national team struggles and will likely miss out on next years African Cup of Nations, the younger squad was able to push Sudan aside and earn a spot in the 2012 London games. Two goals in the second half proved to be the difference for the Pharaohs, who struggled to put together scoring opportunities in the first half despite controlling much of the possession. Ahmed Sherweida and Shehab Ahmed netted the two Egyptian goals en route to what turned out to be an easy victory over their southern neighbors in Cairo. Egypt won the home and home series 2-0 on aggregate, having tied Sudan previously away. That means Egyptian football is returning to the Olympics for the first time since the 1992 Barcelona games. BM
