CAIRO: Most of the buildings used by the formerly ruling National Democratic Party, all the buildings of the specialized councils, and that of the National Council for Women belong to the Cairo governorate and may be turned into public gardens, said Cairo's governor, Abdel Azeem Wazeer. Wazeer confirmed that the majority of the buildings will be demolished and replaced with public gardens which will be an extension of Tahrir Square. Most of the buildings were damaged by fires during Egypt's eighteen-day uprising and cannot be repaired. In related news, Egypt's Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq said many of the country's governors will be replaced within days, adding that the changes are to coincide with the cabinet reshuffle announced on Tuesday, according to government-run newspaper al-Ahram. Shafiq also promised that he will pay visits to Egypt's various governorates to listen to the people's complaints and try and find viable solutions to them. BM
