CAIRO: Two were killed and 11 injured in a car accident in the city of Sohag in the southern part of Egypt, according to local reports on Friday. 17-year-old Warda Abdel Hareth was crossing the road when driver Ali Mawhoob, 24, hit her with his vehicle. The car flipped on its side, resulting in the death of one of the passengers and the girl and leaving 11 others injured. Locals from the city have commented on the reports saying that the highways and roads in the town need immediate attention from the goverment to be expanded and to build pedestrian bridges for locals to cross busy streets. Approximately 6,000 people are killed on Egyptian motorways annually as a result of poor road conditions, bad driving and a lack of seat belts. The economic situation facing many Egyptian towns is also a struggle, as money is not be allocated to infrastructure projects, officials say. BM
