Animal rights activists plan to disrupt Providence dinner, foie gras menu
Animal rights activists plan to march outside Providence restaurant Tuesday night, protesting a menu at a special fundraising dinner that is slated to include foie gras.
The restaurant is holding a fundraising dinner in honor of the Bocuse d'Or USA Foundation, which selects and supports the American team that competes in the Bocuse d'Or, the international culinary competition named after chef Paul Bocuse, and considered the food world's version of the Olympics. Providence chef Michael Cimarusti is a culinary councilmember of Bocuse d'Or USA. According to the restaurant's website, the menu for the event — tickets cost $150 per person — will feature several noted L.A. chefs offering their interpretations of Bocuse's signature dishes. Among the multi-course menu items: duck stuffed with foie gras.
Korea: Famed photographer focuses on animal rights
You may wonder how to define the oddly named monthly magazine “OhBoy!” It features Korean celebrities ranging from popular idol band SHINee to famed fashion designer Jung Kuho. It differs from the flurry of magazines out there in that many of its models aren't just posing to promote products. Instead, they're there to deliver a message.
In the magazine's November issue, which marks its one-year anniversary, celebrities pose under a sign that reads, “Don't buy, adopt us!”
Kim Hyeon-seong, the publisher and editor in chief, says the campaign is meant to encourage readers to adopt abandoned pets.
Animal Rights' Target a Disabled Cornish Angler
A disabled angler from Bude claims he is the victim of a viscious animal rights' campaign.
Mike Rowe runs a charity for people in wheelchairs who want to fish.
He has had anonymous emails, threatening birthday cards and eggs chucked at his house.
Mike has told Pirate FM he is worried about the safety of his family: “Are they going to attack the car? Are they going to physically attack my wife or my daughter out in the street? Are they going to attack me? I do not know what is going to happen.”
Pamela Anderson pushing Israel on animal rights
Former “Baywatch” star Pamela Anderson said Sunday she will try her powers of seduction while in Israel on an unlikely audience — ultra-Orthodox Jewish lawmakers.
Anderson, an honorary director of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is in Israel to participate in the local version of “Dancing with the Stars.”
Her work for animals “has been really inspiring,” she said. “I feel like I have actually done something.”
Deer at Valley Forge to be culled
A thousand acres of forest are being eaten alive by deer in Valley Forge National Historical Park and the herd has to be culled, Pennsylvania officials say.
The herd has multiplied eightfold in 25 years, and officials say federal sharpshooters with rifles and night-vision goggles aim to cut the herd from more than 1,200 to fewer than 200 during the next four years, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Sunday.
On Friday, animal-rights activists filed an emergency request to stop the cull approved by a federal judge last month.
Diabetic Amputee Barbie? Billboard Animal Rights Activists' Media Tactic
Earlier this week, crews posted a billboard on I-95 in Hallandale, near Hallandale Beach Boulevard. “Don't Let Diabetes Cut You Off at the Knees,” the billboard warns. The image used to drive home the message? A Barbie-type doll (naked, of course!) with her leg chopped off.
