CAIRO: The president of the Egyptian community in Rome, Adel Amer, criticized the latest scandal triggered by the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi over his relationship with a girl nicknamed “Ruby” of Moroccan heritage. Amer said the Italian prime minister's decision to intervene on her behalf after she was arrested for theft, claiming she was the granddaughter of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has left the Egyptian community in Rome “angry.” Amer said the statements made by Berlusconi and published in local newspapers on Wednesday and Thursday were “beyond fitness and can`t be stated by a president of country such as Italy.” Amer vowed to sue the Italian Prime Minister Silivio Berlusconi on charges of defamation and dragging President Mubarak into his “irresponsible scandals.” He added that he would submit in the coming days a strongly-worded protest letter to Italian President Giorgio Napolitano over Berlusconi's remarks, which would be “unprecedented in the annals of international politics,” according to Amer. The head of the Egyptian community in Rome added that, if necessary, with members of the Egyptian community in Italy “will organize a protest in front of the Italian Prime Minister's office to demand a formal apology by Berlusconi to the public for the Egyptian people.” According to Italian newspaper reports, Karima Keyek is involved in a sex scandal with the Italian Prime Minister. She claimed he gave her a $9,600 in euros, a diamond necklace and a $110,000 car. The Egyptian Embassy in Rome publicly denied any relationship with Keyek and Egypt's president. BM
