Egypt's Planning Minister said 6,200 projects have been implemented in various sectors during the financial year 2018/2019. The works, costing 490 billion pounds ($30 billion), include 32 national mega projects worth a total of 54 billion pounds, and 202 projects under the "Dignified Life" social protection programme, with a total of 944 million pounds. They also include 34 projects for the development of Upper Egypt, costing 222 million pounds, according to the quarterly report released by the Construction Phase Outcomes for the financial year 2018/2019 on Saturday. The report added that 4,400 local development programme projects were finalised for 10.8 billion pounds, clarifying that the planning ministry designed the first database to track the performance of government sectors as part of the local planning system development. It stated that 1,254 road network projects were implemented for more than 3 billion pounds in 26 governorates, in addition to 392 projects in security, amortisation, and the traffic sector for 1.5 billion pounds, and 78 projects in the bridges and tunnels sector in 16 governorates for 1.7 billion pounds. In addition, 926 projects were implemented to boost and extend electricity networks for 1.2 billion pounds, while 775 projects were finished with the aim of boosting local units' needs for 1.3 billion pounds. Some 981 projects were implemented to improve the environment for a total of 2.1 billion pounds. As far as the national mega projects are concerned, the report said fish farms cost 12.8 billion pounds; Damietta Furniture city 2.7 billion pounds; Beni Sweif cement plants complex, with 12 tonnes of annual production- 1.6 billion pounds; bridges and roads projects 1.4 billion pounds; the Galala development projects 325 billion pounds. In the oil and mining resources sectors, the report said 19 projects cost 277 billion pounds, and 244 projects in electricity and renewable energy were built for 76 billion pounds. Some 382 projects were implemented for more than 40 billion pounds for housing services development, 44 projects in the transportation sector for 16.7 billion pounds, in addition to 263 projects for water resources and irrigation improvement for 2.4 billion pounds. Moreover, 569 projects with a total of 3.6 billion pounds were accomplished, while nine projects for higher education improvement cost 123 million pounds, and 37 projects in the healthcare sector were finalised for a total of 2.2 billion pounds.
