Egypt's state-run Arab Contractors said it has won the 2018 best construction company award in Uganda for participating in several developmental projects there, its chairman said on Wednesday.
AC received the award by Uganda's Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi in recognition of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's efforts to enhance cooperation with African countries, besides the company's good reputation and pioneering role in executing more works there, Mohsen Salah added.
Ibrahim Mabrouk, AC's African sector head, said the company is implementing Masaka–Bukakata road project worth $45 million in Uganda within a 24-month timeframe.
Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) is on track to undertake the upgrade of the project, which involves the upgrade of a 41 km (25.5 miles) road from Masaka to Bukakata.
Masaka–Bukakata road includes the construction of interchanges, bridges, road intersections, service roads, culverts, and related infrastructure as well as the installation of signaling and safety systems.
The Islamic Development Bank provided $50 million funding for the project that also received a loan from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID).
"We are currently executing the rehabilitation and expansion works of Kayunga Hospital worth $13.6 million," Mabrouk said.
Mohamed Tolba, AC's managing director, said the company has recently developed Mulago General Hospital of $22.3 million in favour of Uganda's Ministry of Health. The project includes a bunch of civil and electromechanical works.
AC also handed over the construction and concrete works of the first phase of Bousega Trading Market built on 7,000 metres, at a value worth $5.8 million in favour of Ugandan Local Administration in Kampala, Tolba said.
