Egypt's Cabinet held a meeting on Monday to discuss preparations for President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's upcoming visit to China, which is scheduled for September.
The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to review a number of agreements that are set to be inked between the two countries during the visit, especially in the fields of transportation, industry, electricity, education and housing.
The Egyptian PM reaffirmed Egypt's keenness to maximise already existing cooperation with China during the upcoming period as well as open new areas of investment in other important sectors.
The meeting was attended by the ministers of transportation, investment, electricity, industry, agriculture, petroleum and mineral resources.
The ministers reviewed a number of projects between Egypt and China, including the electric monorail project to link the country's industrial zones with new cities and the establishing of a coal-fuelled power plant in El-Hamrawein region in the Red Sea governorate.
They also discussed financial terms for the second of phase of Egypt's New Administrative Capital's central business area.
China's leading new-energy carmaker BYD reached an agreement with the Egyptian government in October 2017 to build the monorail transit system in Egypt, the company's second overseas monorail order.
The Shenzhen-based company signed the agreement with Alexandria governorate to build a 128-kilometre monorail, the company said.
Egypt's FM Sameh Shoukry visited China in July to discuss boosting relations between the two countries on various levels.
Shoukry expressed Egypt's interest in continuing to enhance economic and trade cooperation, stressing Egypt's keenness to attract more Chinese investments, especially given the various investment opportunities offered by the country's ongoing economic reform programme.
President Sisi's last visit to China was in September 2017, where he held talks with President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.
