Egyptian imports of beef and cattle rose by 2.4 percent during the first seven months of 2016 to 8.9 billion Egyptian pounds (US$ 684 million) from 8.7 billion pounds a year earlier. In its bulletin about foreign trade, state's statistics body CAPMAS showed that volume of Egypt's imports of beef and cattle increased by 27 percent in July 2016 to 2.1 billion pounds from 1.6 billion pounds in July 2015. In January-July 2016, the total volume of cattle imports rose by 39.4 percent to 638.2 million pounds opposed 457.8 million pounds at the same period of 2015. While in July 2016, Egypt's imports of cattle witnessed a 149.7 percent leap, recording 100 million pounds versus 40 million pounds in July 2015. On other side, beef imports jumped during the first seven months of 2016 by 0.4 percent to 8.3 billion pounds compared to 8.2 billion at the same period of 2015. The total volume of Egypt's imports of beef surged 34 percent in July 2016 to 2 billion pounds from 1.5 billion pounds in July 2015, the bulletin showed.
