The total volume of Egypt's imports of capital commodities witnessed a 3.6 percent increase during the first six months of 2016. In January-June 2016, the total volume reached around 38.7 billion Egyptian pounds (US$4.3 billion) from 37.3 billion pounds at the same period of 2015. The monthly bulletin released by state's main statistics body Central Agency For Public Mobilization And Statistics (CAPMAS) about foreign trade showed that Egypt's bill of importing capital commodities fell 17.4 percent in June 2016. The bill recorded 5.7 billion pounds in June 2016 opposed to 6.9 billion pounds in June 2015, the bulletin stated. Egyptian imports of special purpose motor vehicles increased by 153 percent during the first six months of 2016 to 887.8 million pounds from 350.9 percent pounds. In its bulletin, the CAPMAS announced that Egyptian imports of engines, generators and electric motors rose to 2.9 billion pounds in January-June 2016 from 2.3 billion pounds a year earlier, making a 28.4 percent hike. Moreover, Egyptian imports of sparks hit 542.3 million pounds during the first half of 2016 compared to 556.1 million pounds during the first half of 2015, registering 2.5 percent drop.
