Egypt's Arab Contractors has completed works on the first and second phases of its biggest road projects in Kuwait, with total cost worth KD261 million ($862.4 million). The project is in Al-Jahra, 32 kilometres (20 miles) west of Kuwait City in Kuwait, said Sayed Farouk, vice chairman of Arab Contractors, said Monday. Al-Jahra road is the biggest project Arab Contractors is currently undergoing outside Egypt, Farouk said, adding that there are around 3000 engineers, technicians, and workers are taking part in the implementation process. The project is divided into 5 sequential phases, with total lengths of 53 kilometres, involving multiple works such as surface tunnels, bridges, groundworks, and intersections, the Egyptian official stated. Arab Contractors intends to complete the remaining phases in Al-Jahra project ahead of a planned inauguration in mid-2017, he added. The project aims to reduce the growing traffic congestion and improve traffic safety. The Jahra road in its original state has been one of the core transport routes running through the heart of Kuwait, and was witnessing exceedingly busy traffic lines with consistently rising numbers of users. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Public Works has undertaken strategic plans to improve motorways and transport infrastructure in Kuwait. The Jahra Road Development Project is one key project which will transform the simple three lane road into a grand unified highway.
