Slight growth in mobile, internet subscribers with 700,000 new customers

The number of mobile services subscribers rose 0.16% during May as compared to April, according to a report issued by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The report stated the number of mobile subscribers increased to 95.45 million subscribers in May compared to 95.29 million subscribers in April.
According to the report, the rate of mobile subscribers to population registered 108.3%.
Internet users increased by 700,000 new subscribers, the report read. The number of internet users in Egypt increased from 33.6 million in April to 34.3 million in May.
As for USB modem users, the report noted that the indicator registered a growth rate of 3.12%. The number of users rose from 3.52 million in April to 3.64 million in May.
The number of mobile internet users rose from 26.08 million in April to 26.53 million in May, achieving a growth rate of 1.73%.
ADSL users grew by 2.05% in May compared to April, as the number of users increased to 4.12 million compared to 4.05 million in April.
Similarly, landline users rose in May as the number of subscribers increased from 6.09 million to 6.28 million, achieving a growth rate of 3.07%.
The cost of telecommunications services rose slightly in the first quarter of 2016 compared to the fourth quarter of 2015. The cost of ADSL services increased from $6.2 in the fourth quarter of 2015 to reach $6.4 in the first quarter of 2016. The cost of mobile services rose from $2.6 to $2.7 in the first quarter of 2016, while the cost of landline services rose from $2.05 to $2.07.
The report also stated that the price of ADSL services in the first quarter of 2016 registered 36.3% less than the price in the first quarter of 2015.
