A man has been shot dead by officers outside a police station in Barbes, northern Paris on the anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo attacks. The man was seen running towards the police station shouting 'Allahu Akbar', before being shot, in what appears to have been a foiled terrorist attack. The man was armed with a knife and wore an apparent suicide vest, Frances interior ministry reports. Two French officials say the man had wires extending from his clothing, and an explosives squad is on site. The two officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing, said the shooting came shortly after noon. Residents in the area have been told to close their windows and balconies, according to Anna Polonyi, a Paris based editor with the International New York Times. The journalist, whose family lives in the neighbourhood tweeted: '#Barbes My sister saw this man running towards the station before being shot down. Bomb team has been called in.' Minutes before, French President Francois Hollande had paid homage to police officers killed in the line of duty, including three police shot to death last January.
