5 Industrial sectors seize 76% of Egypt's non-petroleum imports- report

Five industrial sectors seized 76% of Egypt's non-petroleum imports - worth 192.7 billion Egyptian pounds (US$ 24.6 billion) - within the first five months of 2015.
According to a report issued Sunday by the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC), the five sectors' imports reached 146.4 billion Egyptian pounds, marking 19.8% increase.
Compared to the same period of 2014, the five sectors; engineering industries, chemicals, food industries, building materials, and agricultural crops, have attained imports volume estimated at 122.2 billion Egyptian pounds.
The report stated that engineering industries sector was the largest importing sector within January-May 2015 with imports estimated at 57.8 billion Egyptian pounds versus 42.4 billion Egyptian pounds at the same period of 2014, making 36% increase.
Following the engineering sector was chemicals and fertilizers sector whose imports estimated at 26.6 billion Egyptian pounds opposed to 23.3 billion Egyptian pounds registering 14% increase.
The imports of building materials sector registered 24 billion Egyptian pounds compared to 23.5 billion Egyptian pounds making 0.3% increase.
Coming fourth was agricultural crops sector which has obtained imports estimated at 19.8 billion Egyptian pounds within the first five months of 2015 making 25% increase compared to 15.9 Egyptian pounds at the same period of 2014.
The fifth largest importing sector was food industries sector attaining imports worth 18.1 billion Egyptian pounds during January-May 2015 versus 17.1 billion Egyptian pounds at the same period of 2014, marking 6 percent increase.
On other hand, the report clarified that other sectors has made considerable growth in theirs imports within the first five months of 2015 since the sector of ready-made clothes has recorded imports worth 3.2 billion Egyptian pounds opposed to 1.4 billion Egyptian pounds at the same period of 2014, registering 136% increase.
Moreover, imports of leather sector have been boosted 80 percent from 425 million Egyptian pounds during the first five months of 2014 to 765 million Egyptian pounds at the same period of 2015, the report showed.
