SODIC, Housing Ministry Sign Cooperation Protocol To Develop Slums

SODIC (OCDI) has signed today a cooperation protocol with Cairo Governorate, the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater and the GIZ to connect 1000 houses to the fresh water network in Ezzbet Khair Allah. The project is planned to be carried out over one year and is fully funded by SODIC.
The signing ceremony was attended by his Excellency Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Housing, , Mr. Ahmed Badrawi, SODIC's Managing Director, Dr. Eng. Galal Moustafa, Cairo Governor and Eng. Mamdouh Raslan Chairman, Holding Company for Water and Wastewater.
The project comes as part of SODIC's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and GIZ's Water and Wastewater Management Programme (WWMP) under the auspices of The Egyptian Ministry of Housing. The full scope of the project entails connecting the chosen homes to the fresh water and waste water networks in place in Ezbet Khairallah, installing a fire fighting network, providing the community's youth with vocational training on construction and installation of water and waste water connections, employing the community's youth in the collection of water tariffs, running water consumption awareness programs in the schools of Ezbet Khairallah, as well as creating a community kiosk to engage the community in all aspects of the project.Commenting on the protocol signing, Mr. Ahmed Badrawi, SODIC's Managing Director said "This initiative comes as part of the slum rehabilitation work SODIC does through its Corporate Social Responsibility programs. Access to clean fresh water is a basic human right.
This project will benefit more than 1000 families of Ezzbet Khair Allah, providing them with fresh water, creating jobs for the community and raising awareness about water usage."
This is the second slum rehabilitation initiative SODIC embarks on, second to the home renovation and development work underway in Ezbet El Assaal, Shubra.
SODIC's CSR programs impact the lives of over 7,000 families every year with a focus on education and slum rehabilitation.
