RWE Dea's Gas Operations in Egypt's North West Khilala Prove Successful

RWE Dea Egypt – a subsidiary of German energy company RWE AG - reported another positive appraisal of the North West Khilala (NWK) natural gas field, part of the Disouq gas project, with its NW Khilala-1-4 development well.
RWE Dea drilled its fourth gas well in North West Khilala (NWK). The well was successfully tapped and is said to produce about 450,000 standard cubic metres of gas per day, which is in line with the company's expectations regarding the well's location.
"NWK-1-4 is the fourth well to be drilled in the NWK structure, and reached a total measured depth of 3,175 metres in the Abu Madi Formation," the company said in an official statement.
The company has operated Disouq Development Project, which encompasses the development of seven gas fields in the Nile Delta and North West Khilala. The NWK Field produces 1.45m standard cubic metres of gas per day from three wells.
"The recent successful appraisal of North West Khilala Field has confirmed and further enhanced our understanding of the reservoir properties and distribution," said Maximilian Fellner, General Manager RWE Dea Egypt. "NW Khilala-1-4 will now be tied back to the existing production facilities and go into production shortly."
The German company plans to produce around 11.4bn cubic metres of gas from the seven gas fields in the first phase of the Disouq Development Project, along with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and the Suez Oil Company (SUCO).
The company stated that it will now move to drill a four-well appraisal and development programme in the area of South East Sidi Salem and Disouq Fields, approximately 50 kilometres west of the NWK Field.
RWE Dea Egypt has been operating successfully in Egypt since 1974. The company has a total of 10 onshore and offshore concessions in Egypt, over an area of about 3,700 square kilometres.
