Egypt's Suez Canal Authority (SCA) and South Korea are exploring new cooperation in shipbuilding, repair, and green fuel projects as part of the Canal's transition to cleaner operations, the authority said on Wednesday. SCA Chairman Osama Rabie met in Ismailia with Park Beom-kye, special envoy of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, where they reviewed joint projects including six liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered tugboats, an LNG bunkering station, and the conversion of two ferries to LNG. The initiatives fall under the Authority's Green Canal strategy. Rabie said Hyundai Corporation will provide a grant to set up classrooms and an LNG bunkering training facility at the SCA's vocational centre in Port Said to build local expertise in ship services and sustainable fuel operations. He added that the Authority is ready to attract further South Korean investment in shipbuilding, repair, and logistics, reinforcing its role in regional maritime services. Park described the Suez Canal as a global maritime artery and praised the Authority's role in supporting supply chains despite Red Sea disruptions. He called for expanding cooperation with South Korean companies in ship construction, maintenance, and repair to widen opportunities in the sector.
