Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat departed Cairo on Wednesday for Russia to participate in World Atomic Week and oversee the transport of the first reactor's pressure vessel for the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. The vessel is being moved from the AEM-Technology's factory in Saint Petersburg to Egypt, marking a key milestone in the country's nuclear power programme. During his visit, Esmat will also attend the annual BRICS Nuclear Energy Platform Conference, meet with Russian nuclear officials, and review progress on the El-Dabaa project. This year's conference will also witness the signing of new members joining the BRICS Nuclear Energy Platform. The minister is expected to discuss the transition to the reactor pressure vessel stage, updates on construction timelines, and cooperation with Russian equipment manufacturers as part of Egypt's push to localise nuclear technology and boost domestic industry. The visit highlights Egypt's ongoing strategic partnership with Russia in developing its peaceful nuclear energy programme, which aims to diversify the country's electricity mix and support clean energy initiatives, a statement from the ministry of electricity said.
