Hassan Abdalla, governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), has earned a place among the world's highest-rated central bankers in Global Finance Magazine's 2025 Central Banker Report Cards, the publication said. The Egyptian Cabinet celebrated Abdalla's ranking in a statement on Sunday, calling it "successes recognised worldwide" and a testament to the CBE's efforts to stabilise the economy and strengthen Egypt's position in global markets. The annual rankings, published since 1994, evaluates nearly 100 central bank governors across a range of metrics including inflation control, economic growth, currency stability, interest rate management, and political independence. Governors earning "A+", "A", or "A-" are highlighted as those whose performance stands out in these challenging areas. Abdalla joins other "A-" ranked governors such as European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde, Ethiopia's Mamo Mihretu, and Singapore's Chia Der Jiun among global peers receiving the grade. "Most central bankers have spent the past few years battling inflation with their most effective tool: higher interest rates, though their mandates may differ from country to country." said Global Finance founder and editorial director Joseph Giarraputo. "As inflation recedes, we're beginning to see the results of those tough policy decisions," "Our annual Central Banker Report Cards recognise those leaders who have not only delivered results but done so with independence, discipline, and strategic foresight." Denmark's Christian Kettel Thomsen, United States Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, and Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Hong took the top "A+" grade this year. Among those with an "A" are Abdellatif Jouahri of Morocco, Julio Velarde of Peru, Kamau Thugge of Kenya, and others. The full ranking will be published in Global Finance's October print and digital editions and online at its website GFMag.com. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
