The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) has announced the results of its routine field monitoring and inspection activities during the final week of July, aimed at identifying violations in the handling of petroleum products.
In Aswan Governorate, authorities seized 1.4 million litres of fuel that had been illegally handled.
Another 100,000 litres were discovered at a different station in the same area. A smuggling den in Hekroub, Aswan City, was raided and found to contain 85 barrels (60 litres each) of illegally obtained diesel. Unlicensed trucks were also were also seized while transporting diesel and gasoline.
In Sohag Governorate, The committee caught unauthorised diesel loading at El-Kosh fuel station. An additional 37,000 litres of illegally stockpiled gasoline and diesel were found at a station in the same area.
The committee also conducted surprise inspections at 20 fuel stations across 10 governorates: Qalyubia, Gharbia, Beheira, Alexandria, Suez, Kafr El-Sheikh, Port Said, Damietta, Sohag, and Aswan. One station operating without civil defence approval was shut down until all requirements are met.
Four diesel nozzles at another station were found unstamped and tampered with; they were confiscated and sealed off pending recalibration and official stamping. A fuel station in Qalyubia was shut down for lacking fire protection systems.
The committee confirmed it had also followed up on stations flagged in previous campaigns and commended companies for their swift responses in addressing recorded violations.
