Egypt's health ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding with German pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim to strengthen stroke care services across the country, the ministry said on Tuesday. Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said the agreement marks a key step toward improving the national stroke network by upgrading hospital infrastructure, training medical staff and standardising rapid intervention protocols in line with global standards. Under the deal, the Angels Initiative – a healthcare intervention to improve stroke patients' survival and disability-free life – will be rolled out in 20 ministry-affiliated hospitals in the first phase. The programme will also train healthcare workers in partnership with the Egyptian Health Council and launch public awareness campaigns on recognising stroke symptoms and seeking immediate treatment. Patient data will be recorded through the resq.org Platform to monitor performance and improve treatment outcomes, the ministry said. Boehringer Ingelheim will provide technical and logistical support at no cost to the state. Mohamed Meshref, Boehringer Ingelheim's general manager for Egypt, North, East, and West Africa, said the company remains committed to supporting Egypt's healthcare sector by sharing expertise, training medical professionals and offering technical assistance.
