Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawy met with Schlumberger's Regional President Jesus Lamas to discuss expanding cooperation in exploration, production, and digital technologies, the Cabinet reported. The meeting discussed Egypt's petroleum sector strategy, emphasising increased exploration, production enhancement, and key projects like the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) and regional seismic surveys in the Red Sea and Gulf of Suez. Badawy highlighted the EUG platform as a modern digital tool to attract investment by offering promising exploration opportunities. He also noted the successful promotion of recent bid rounds launched by EGPC, EGAS, and GANOPE through the platform. Discussions also included the application of AI and digital tools to improve operational efficiency and decision-making, along with enhancing cooperation on seismic surveys in the Red Sea and potentially using Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) technology in the Gulf of Suez. The two sides explored opportunities in maturing field development, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and technical workshops to support Egypt's current petroleum activities, according to the statement.
