China's Sunrev Solar has signed Wednesday a $200 million agreement with TEDA Egypt to establish a major solar energy components manufacturing complex in the Ain Sokhna industrial zone. The deal, witnessed by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, will see Sunrev build two factories in the first phase to produce 2 gigawatts of solar cells and 2 gigawatts of solar modules. A second phase will focus on localising raw material production, including silicon ingots and wafers, according to government officials. The complex will be built on a 200,000-square-metre site in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone). It is expected to generate annual exports worth $300 million and create over 1,800 direct jobs. "This project aligns with our strategy to localize advanced industries and complete the solar supply chain in Egypt, from raw materials to finished products," said Walid Gamal El-Din, chairman of the SCZone authority. Construction is set to begin on June 19, with the first phase targeted to be operational in the first half of 2026. The project underscores the growing confidence of global clean energy firms in Egypt's industrial zones, Prime Minister Madbouly said. Sunrev Solar is among the world's top manufacturers of solar technology. The move comes as Egypt ramps up efforts to attract green investments and advance its Vision 2030 sustainability goals.
