Egypt's General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR) Chairman Ahmed Taha met with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in support of the Universal Health Insurance (UHI) system and the implementation of the Patient-Centred Care (PCC) Project. The PCC, regarded as a key example of strategic Egyptian-Japanese cooperation in healthcare development, currently includes 22 healthcare facilities spanning the public, private and university sectors across governorates covered in the first and second phases of the insurance system rollout. During the meeting, both sides discussed mechanisms for promoting a culture of quality in healthcare in line with national standards set by GAHAR. Discussions also explored opportunities for training GAHAR staff and implementing simulation programmes based on successful Japanese models to help build practical experience in applying patient-centred healthcare models.
