Egypt exported 200,000 tons of food products in the week ending May 23, with potatoes and citrus fruits topping the list of outbound shipments, according to the latest National Food Safety Authority's weekly report issued on Sunday. The number of exported food consignments reached 4,130 amounting to about 200,000 tons, exported by 1,380 companies. These shipments included 574 varieties of vegetables, fruits, flour, and various food products. Potatoes topped the list of exported vegetables at 16,000 tons each, followed by onions at 15,000 tons, and various types of beans at 4,000 tons. In all, Egypt exported 55,000 tons of vegetables spanning 48 varieties. Among fruits, citrus exports led with 23,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 12,000 tons, and other assorted fruits at 10,000 tons, totalling 45,000 tons across 24 fruit types, the report showed. Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States emerged as the top destinations for Egyptian food exports out of a total of 193 importing countries.
