Egypt's Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat met with Tareq Alnassar, Assistant Director-General of the OPEC Fund for International Development, to discuss scaling up support for the country's private sector, as Egypt seeks to deepen development financing partnerships. The meeting took place on Thursday on the sidelines of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development's (EBRD) 34th Annual Meeting and Business Forum, being held in London from May 13 to 15 under the theme Expanding Horizons, Enduring Strengths. Minister Al-Mashat emphasised Egypt's appreciation for the OPEC Fund's role in financing private sector projects and supporting the country's broader sustainable development agenda. She said the partnership reflects "a shared commitment to unlocking economic potential and delivering long-term impact." Egypt has increasingly focused on mobilising private capital to reduce reliance on public debt and drive job creation. The OPEC Fund, which finances projects across emerging and developing markets, has been a long-standing partner in Egypt's development efforts. The two sides discussed ongoing initiatives and potential future projects, with a particular focus on enhancing the private sector's contribution to economic growth amid global financing challenges.
