Egypt's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour met with Japan's Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Toshiko Abe to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in higher education and scientific research, as per a Cabinet statement. Ashour highlighted Egypt's focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, and scientific research in line with the country's national strategy for sustainable innovation. He also noted the importance of regional university alliances and stronger links with industry to advance Egypt's higher education goals. Both sides praised ongoing cooperation between Egypt's Ministry of Higher Education and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), especially the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), which is a regional centre of excellence in education and research. The meeting also reviewed progress on the Egyptian-Japanese KOSEN (EJ-KOSEN) which aims to transfer Japan's technical education model to Egypt to help train a skilled workforce that can support the country's economic and social development. Toshiko reaffirmed Japan's commitment to supporting education in Africa, especially Egypt, and stressed Japan's ongoing support for the KOSEN project, aimed at producing highly qualified engineers and enhancing academic and cultural ties between the two countries.
