Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Comoros President Azali Assoumani oversaw the signing of three memoranda of understanding on Sunday, signalling a deepening partnership between the two African nations. The leaders witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on political consultation mechanisms, a visa waiver agreement for diplomatic, service, and special passport holders, and a general cooperation accord between the two governments. The documents were signed by the countries' foreign ministers during an official ceremony in Cairo. In a joint press conference, President Sisi affirmed Egypt's full readiness to boost cooperation with the Comoros across several sectors, including health, education, energy, tourism, fisheries, and infrastructure. "We also agreed on the need to increase bilateral trade, especially in light of both countries' membership in the COMESA trade bloc," President Sisi said, underlining shared ambitions to advance regional economic integration and enhance intra-African commerce. The talks also touched on shared positions regarding key African and global challenges, including developments in Gaza, Sudan, and the Horn of Africa, as well as Red Sea security and the fight against terrorism. Both presidents stressed the strategic role of the Sahel and Sahara grouping in counterterrorism efforts. The Egyptian president also emphasised the importance of unified African stances on climate change, poverty reduction, and debt relief, calling for fair African representation in international institutions. "Egypt is committed to strengthening its bonds with the Comoros in the interest of both our peoples and our continent." President Sisi added. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
