Egypt's Competition Authority (ECA) signed on Wednesday memoranda of understanding with the Eurasian Economic Commission and the United Arab Emirates, aiming to expand cross-border collaboration and step up enforcement against anti-competitive practices. The deals, signed by ECA Chairman Mahmoud Momtaz, were announced during the regulator's annual conference marking its 20th anniversary. The event, held under the patronage of the Prime Minister, brought together government officials, diplomats, judicial leaders, and business representatives. Maksim Yermolovich, the Eurasian Economic Commission's minister in charge of competition and antitrust regulation, signed on behalf of the bloc. He described Egypt as one of the Commission's key partners in the Arab world and Africa, adding that the agreement would help tackle anti-competitive behaviour in cross-border markets within the Eurasian Economic Union. The second memorandum was signed by UAE Assistant Undersecretary for Commercial Control and Governance, Safia Hashem Al Safi. The partnership focuses on joint investigations, data sharing, and capacity building, and draws on the Cairo-based UNCTAD Regional Center for Competition in the Middle East and Africa. "These agreements reinforce Egypt's leadership in competition policy and support our ability to respond to external market distortions," Momtaz said in a statement.
