Egypt voices support for Oman-hosted US-Iran talks
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 13 - 04 - 2025

Egypt welcomed Oman's hosting of the first round of direct negotiations between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing the move as a positive step towards resolving regional tensions. It also praised Oman's ongoing, constructive role in promoting political and peaceful solutions amid mounting regional challenges, and its efforts to avert the outbreak of a full-scale war.
According to an official statement on Saturday, Egypt reiterated its full support for Oman's sincere mediation efforts and for all initiatives aimed at reaching political settlements through dialogue—an approach Cairo has consistently endorsed. It stressed that military solutions cannot resolve the crises shaking the region and that policies of escalation only worsen the situation.
Egypt further welcomed the cooperative attitude shown by both the US and Iranian parties and their commitment to dialogue and negotiation. Cairo viewed this as a constructive path towards achieving mutual compromises that could help ease tensions across the region.
The Egyptian government expressed hope that the talks would result in an agreement addressing the concerns of both parties and contribute to the security and stability of neighbouring Gulf countries. It also expressed hope that such progress would open the door to broader de-escalation in the region, particularly in the Gaza Strip, leading to a lasting ceasefire, the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip without displacement of Palestinians, and the launch of a credible political process towards the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Egypt linked the talks to US President Donald Trump's vision for ending international conflicts and wars, expressing hope that the negotiations would mark a turning point and lead to a historic resolution of the Palestinian people's suffering, which has endured for over seven decades.
