Egypt's petroleum ministry announced on Friday an increase in domestic fuel prices, marking the first hike of 2025. The price hikes, announced by the ministry's automatic fuel pricing committee, took effect at 6:00 a.m. local time (04:00 GMT). They apply to all grades of gasoline, diesel, industrial fuel oil (mazut), and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), including gas supplied to brick kilns. Prices for diesel fuel, one of the most widely used fuels in Egypt particulary in transportation and agriculture, were hiked by 2 Egyptian pounds ($0.039) to 15.50 pounds per litre from 13.50 pounds. The move aligns with Egypt's commitment to phase out fuel subsidies by end-2025—a key condition of the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) $8 billion support package aimed at narrowing the country's current account deficit. Revised fuel prices are as follows: * Gasoline 95-octane: EGP 19.00/litre * Gasoline 92-octane: EGP 17.25/litre * Gasoline 80-octane: EGP 15.75/litre * Diesel and Kerosene: EGP 15.50/litre * Industrial mazut: EGP 10,500/ton * Household LPG cylinder (12.5 kg): EGP 200 * Commercial LPG cylinder: EGP 400 * Bulk LPG: EGP 16,000/ton * Gas for brick kilns: EGP 210 per million BTUs Fuel oil supplied to the electricity and food industries, as well as natural gas used in vehicle fueling, will remain at current prices, the ministry added.
