Sisi stresses govt. coordination to enhance food security, commodity trade
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 25 - 03 - 2025

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday underscored the need for coordination and integration among government entities to secure the country's strategic needs, enhance food security, and strengthen Egypt's position as a regional hub for agricultural trade. He also emphasised aligning local production with market demands to support farmers and boost their competitiveness.
The president was briefed on the country's strategic stockpile of food and essential goods in coordination with the Future of Egypt Authority. Officials confirmed the availability of secure reserves and ongoing efforts to expand strategic stockpiles.
Sisi also reviewed government initiatives to activate the Egyptian Mercantile Exchange to help stabilise food security and ensure the sustainable availability of essential goods at fair prices. The exchange aims to set equitable prices for strategic commodities, protect both producers and consumers, support local agricultural and industrial sectors, and enhance market transparency.
The meeting also addressed the exchange's role in facilitating the import and export of agricultural products, processed foods, animal feed, fertilisers, pesticides, and veterinary medicines. It was confirmed that the exchange will help farmers and traders by streamlining supply chains and reducing distribution costs.
Additionally, the Egyptian Mercantile Exchange will introduce new mechanisms to support small-scale producers and unify export and import policies under a single framework. It is expected to boost Egypt's trade activities, create a new generation of exporters, and promote their products in global markets.
