Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty met on Tuesday with Yasmin Qureshi, a member of the UK House of Commons and the UK's trade envoy to Egypt, to discuss boosting economic cooperation between the two countries. Abdel Aty highlighted the importance of enhancing trade and investment relations, noting that bilateral trade neared £5 billion last year. He expressed Egypt's keenness to expand joint efforts to maximise economic opportunities and attract more British investment. The minister outlined measures taken by the Egyptian government to improve the business climate, remove obstacles for foreign investors, and strengthen the role of the private sector. He also stressed the need to build on the Egypt-UK Partnership Agreement signed in December 2020 and the outcomes of the Egyptian-British Partnership Council meeting in January, which aimed to resolve outstanding issues and facilitate market access for exports. Abdel Aty further emphasised Egypt's interest in deepening cooperation in higher education and tourism, noting that Egypt remains a key destination for British travellers and expressing hope for increased tourism flows.
