Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly chaired a meeting on Tuesday to review progress on the government's plan to enhance the efficiency of state-run slaughterhouses, according to a Cabinet statement. Prime Minister Madbouly reaffirmed the government's commitment to upgrading slaughterhouses across all governorates, ensuring they provide safe and hygienic services while adhering to occupational safety standards. Minister of Local Development Manal Awad provided updates on the renovation of Egypt's 464 slaughterhouses, with 41 currently under development. Among them is a logistics slaughterhouse in Damietta, along with 20 privately owned facilities undergoing improvements. Mahmoud Nassar, Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, outlined a phased plan to refurbish 150 slaughterhouses. The first phase targets 41 facilities across 22 governorates, including the Damietta logistics slaughterhouse. The second phase will upgrade 53 slaughterhouses, followed by the third phase, which will modernize the remaining 55. Prime Minister Madbouly instructed the Ministry of Local Development, in collaboration with the Central Agency for Reconstruction, to devise a plan for transferring completed slaughterhouses. He also emphasized the importance of engaging the private sector in managing and operating these facilities to maximise efficiency and protect investments in the sector, the statement added.
