Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and his Iraqi counterpart, Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani led the third session of the Egyptian-Iraqi High Joint Committee in Baghdad on Thursday, underscoring their shared commitment to closer economic cooperation.
Prime Minister Madbouly emphasied Egypt's dedication to fostering joint investments with Iraq, particularly through private sector partnerships that benefit both nations. He highlighted the readiness of Egyptian companies to contribute to Iraq's reconstruction, leveraging their expertise in infrastructure, housing, transportation, and industry.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani praised the positive impact of Egyptian firms on Iraq's economy, citing prominent companies like Orascom, Talaat Moustafa, and El Sewedy, which enjoy full support from the Iraqi government. He reaffirmed Iraq's commitment to strengthening cooperation in key sectors, including energy, transport, logistics, telecommunications, and manufacturing.
Several bilateral agreements are expected to be signed, including a land transport cooperation memorandum aimed at boosting trade between Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan. The two leaders also encouraged increased joint ventures between Egyptian and Iraqi businesses.
Prime Minister Madbouly announced Egypt's readiness to expand its pharmaceutical sector in Iraq, highlighting its robust industry with over 200 factories and an internationally recognised drug regulatory body. He further proposed enhanced cooperation in the oil sector, directing Egypt's petroleum minister to initiate immediate talks with his Iraqi counterpart on refining and storage projects.
Both leaders expressed a strong commitment to accelerating trade, investment, and industrial collaboration, ensuring that signed agreements translate into tangible economic growth for both countries.
