Egypt's Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy witnessed on Tuesday the signing of a cooperation protocol with the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development to expand the Bab Amal (Door of Hope) programme to break free from poverty and embark on a path towards sustainable livelihoods. The Door of Hope programme, based on the Graduation Approach and developed by BRAC, aims to assist 100,000 Egyptian families by 2028, moving them out of extreme poverty and towards sustainable livelihoods. The programme has been implemented in over 50 countries, benefiting approximately 14 million people, with evaluations showing significant and lasting social, economic, and psychological improvements for participating families. Morsy emphasised the ministry's commitment to providing comprehensive social protection services to families in the Takaful and Karama programme, helping them overcome poverty with a range of support services in addition to cash assistance. She also highlighted the ministry's focus on economic empowerment initiatives, such as micro-loans, asset grants, and job training programmes, benefiting over 1.2 million people in Egypt.
