Egypt's Housing Minister reviews CBD progress
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 12 - 01 - 2025

Egypt's Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Sherif El-Sherbiny, held a meeting with officials from China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) to accelerate progress and address challenges facing the Central Business District (CBD) at the New Administrative Capital, Cairo, according to an Egyptian Cabinet statement.
El-Sherbiny emphasised the strategic importance of the project, urging adherence to the highest quality standards and specified timelines. Expressing dissatisfaction with delays in certain areas, he announced that a dedicated ministry team will oversee the project onsite until completion.
Discussions focused on construction schedules for the district's towers and hotels, as well as landscaping works. The minister also reviewed the status of hotel designs, particularly within the iconic tower.
The CBD encompasses multi-use towers, including 10 buildings for administrative, commercial, and service purposes, spanning 806,000 square metres with heights between 80 and 175 metres.
The project includes five residential towers covering 102,000 square metres, standing between 152 and 200 meters tall, and comprising 1,700 fully finished apartments. Additionally, the district includes the Crescent Towers, comprising four interconnected structures for hotel, serviced apartments, entertainment, and commercial use, with a maximum height of 64 metres.
The highlight of the CBD is the 400-metre-tall Iconic Tower, Africa's tallest skyscraper, which combines hotel, commercial, and office spaces. It includes a globally renowned hotel operating in Egypt and Africa for the first time, 40 floors of office spaces, 10 floors of serviced apartments with 52 units, and 30 hotel floors offering 183 rooms, covering a total area of 266,000 square metres.
