Egypt enacts urgent plan to upgrade fertiliser plant
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 12 - 01 - 2025

Egypt's Minister of Public Business Sector Mohamed Shaimy chaired a meeting to review progress on the urgent reform plan and the revival of Talkha Fertiliser Factories, according to a statement by the Cabinet.
Discussions centred on revitalising the company, modernising factories, developing technologies, and improving market position. Executives reviewed urgent steps, including assessing production lines to restart ammonia and urea factories.
This assessment is in preparation for a comprehensive development plan that will support the factories with modern technology, increase production capacities, improve operational efficiency and energy consumption, and raise product quality.
The development will be undertaken in cooperation with the private sector, enhancing the company's ability to meet local fertiliser demand and maximise exports, the Cabinet statement added.
Shaimy was briefed on the factories' infrastructure and machinery condition, and challenges to resuming production. A restart plan, equipment renewal needs, and planned product quality improvements to meet global standards were also discussed.
The minister emphasised the importance of the fertiliser sector and the state's commitment to supporting its expansion. He highlighted the sector's contribution to the national economy, food security, and agricultural expansion plans, as well as the political leadership's focus on reviving and developing Delta Fertilisers Company.
He affirmed that all necessary technical and financial support would be provided to operate and modernise the factories, invest in the latest production technologies, and maximise the use of available resources. The goal is to improve quality and increase productivity while adhering to safety, environmental, and sustainability standards.
This will enhance the company's competitiveness, meet local fertiliser needs, and facilitate exports, aligning with the state's direction to support national industry and localise modern technology.
The minister emphasised the need for a comprehensive reform plan with specific timelines. He urged increased collaboration to achieve goals and highlighted opportunities for private sector involvement under the State Ownership Policy.
