Konecta to establish regional hub, AI centre of excellence in Egypt

Egypt's Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) signed on Thursday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Konecta to establish the company's regional headquarters in Cairo and create a cutting-edge centre of excellence for generative AI.
The agreement, witnessed by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, highlights Egypt's growing attractiveness as a hub for global companies seeking to leverage its skilled workforce and vibrant technology sector.
As part of the agreement, Konecta plans to invest $100 million over the next three years, setting up its new headquarters in Cairo to oversee operations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. This initiative is expected to create 3,000 specialised job opportunities in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, big data analytics, internet of things (IoT), technical support, and multilingual customer service.
A key feature of the partnership is the establishment of Konecta's first-ever global centre of excellence for generative AI in Egypt. The centre will focus on transferring knowledge and expertise in advanced technologies such as Conversational AI and data analytics to Egyptian talent, further enhancing the country's reputation as a leader in AI and technology innovation.
Prime Minister Madbouly underscored the government's commitment to prioritising the communications and IT sector within its broader structural reform agenda. Egypt holds a competitive advantage, particularly with its young, skilled workforce, he remarked, expressing pride in the talents he observed during visits to outsourcing centres across the nation.
Minister Talaat echoed this sentiment, stressing the strategic significance of the agreement. He noted that Egypt's status as a leading destination for digital services and outsourcing continues to grow. The country is dedicated to fostering a business-friendly environment and developing the necessary skills to meet the demands of emerging technologies. The minister also emphasised that the partnership with Konecta will not only create jobs but also cultivate young talent to meet the increasing demand for outsourcing services in major international markets.
With more than 200 sites in 26 countries on three continents and around 130,000 employees, Spain-based BPO and call-centre provider Konecta generate €2 billion in revenues annually.
