Cairo covers all bases of WUF12
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 10 - 10 - 2024

Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber outlined on Wednesday the city's extensive preparations for the 12th edition of the World Urban Forum (WUF12), taking place on November 4-8.
These preparations include involvement from various government agencies, including the Ministries of Local Development and Culture, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), and local authorities.
The governor emphasized Cairo's significant urban growth in recent years, highlighting its improved housing, infrastructure, and eradication of slums. He stated that WUF12 will serve as a platform to showcase these achievements and promote Cairo's modern international identity while celebrating its rich historical heritage.
To ensure the event's success, the governorate is working closely with the Ministries of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, as well as UN-Habitat, to provide necessary logistical support and hospitality for foreign guests.
Saber stressed the importance of the forum, emphasising its status as the second-largest event on the United Nations agenda after the Climate Summit. He noted that the successful hosting of WUF12 will reflect Egypt's regional and global standing.
In addition to the main forum activities, Cairo will also host Cairo Urban Week from October 27th to November 3rd. This week-long event will feature various activities, including a visit to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation, a cycling race, interactive talks, and a visit to Al-Asmarat slums.
The major WUF12 events will take place at the Al-Manara Conference Centre, with the opening ceremony featuring a performance by the Al-Wafaa Wal-Amal Orchestra. The event will also include visits to Cairo landmarks, such as Al-Azhar Park, Al-Muizz Street, Khan El Khalili, Al-Fawakhir village, and the Religious Complex.
With approximately 12,000 people from various nations registered to attend, WUF12 is expected to attract significant international and local interest. The forum aims to bring together leaders and experts from around the world to discuss pressing urban issues and explore sustainable development solutions.
