The European Union (EU) imported 2.7 million tons of coffee from non-EU countries in 2023, valued at €10.6 billion, according to official data. While the volume remained stable compared to 2013, the value saw a sharp rise from €7.3 billion a decade earlier. The majority of coffee imports came from Brazil (34 per cent) and Vietnam (24 per cent), followed by Uganda, Honduras, India, Colombia, Peru, and Indonesia. Germany was the largest importer within the EU, accounting for 33 per cent of extra-EU imports, followed by Italy (23 per cent) and Belgium (10 per cent). Meanwhile, EU coffee production, including roasted and decaffeinated varieties, grew to 2.3 million tons, up 15 per cent from 2013.
