Samsung Plans To Rollout 5G Network By 2020, Hits Over 1Gbps Download Speed In Tests
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 13 - 05 - 2013

South Korean tech titan Samsung on Monday said it has successfully tested the next super fast fifth-generation (5G) wireless technology and may launch it by 2020.
The 5G mobile communications system, which is said to be 100 times faster than 4G networks, would provide users easier and faster multitasking abilities. Despite the fact that the current generation 4G technology is yet to launch in many countries, Samsung is already prepping to release 5G technology in the commercial market by 2020.
Samsung also claimed that it has trounced millimetre-wave bands limitations through adaptive array transceiver technology. The high speed fifth generation technology would transmit data at a frequency of 28 GHz and at a speed of up to 1.056 Gbps to a distance of up to 2 kilometres.
"The millimeter-wave band is the most effective solution to recent surges in wireless Internet usage. Samsung's recent success in developing the adaptive array transceiver technology has brought us one step closer to the commercialization of 5G mobile communications in the millimeter-wave bands," said Samsung executive vice president and head of digital media and communication R&D, ChangYeong Kim.
With 5G speed, users would be able to download entire games or high-definition 3D films in a matter of seconds. According to Samsung, 5G technology would allow "a wide range of services such as 3D movies and games, real-time streaming of ultra high-definition content, and remote medical services."
Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported that the new technology uses 64 antenna elements to prevent radio signals from being lost while transmitting .This would enable users to download and upload data at a speed up to 10Gbps, compared to 75 Mbps with the 4G data speed.
