According to the dispatched IRNA reporter, the Iranian top diplomat is scheduled to meet the top Egyptian official in this visit, including the Egyptian President Muhammad Morsi and Minister of Foreign Affairs Muhammad Kamil Amr, and exchange ideas on issues of mutual interest, and seek ways for expansion of bilateral cooperation.
Salehi would in this visit consult with Egyptian officials about the latest regional official about the latest regional developments, particularly in Syrian and Palestine.
This is the second visit of Egypt by Salehi during the tenure of President Morsi, who has also visited Iran once to attend the 16th Non Aligned Movement (NAM) Tehran Summit as the head of NAM and had the NAM presidency for the next four years to Iran.
In April 2012, Iran appointed an ambassador to Egypt. Soon after Mohammed Morsi visited Iran in August 2012, it was decided to reestablish bilateral diplomatic relations, with rededication of embassy locations.
A first ambassador was nominated to represent Egypt in Iran. While overall relations have been steadily improving, continued tensions between Iran, Saudi Arabia and allied Western nations have put this development into question.
