President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Wednesday that green investing in Egypt continues to surge, currently accounts for 40 percent of total investments in the country, and will reach 50 percent by 2023. Speaking at the Egypt-International Cooperation Forum (Egypt-ICF), president al-Sisi said Egypt is among the countries in Africa that contribute the least to climate disruption. He even called for a "comprehensive vision" to raise African countries' capabilities to mitigate climate change. The Egyptian president stressed the importance of UN efforts to provide grants to African countries, who are harmed the most by climate change despite being the lowest contributors to carbon dioxide emissions. He called for the countries that are most responsible for climate change to raise their climate mitigation contributions. "Only 20 countries are responsible for about 80 percent of the climate change impacts. I think it is fair and objective that those states boost their contributions [to support] efforts to mitigate climate change," al-Sisi said.
