Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power to construct 1.1GW onshore wind project in Egypt

Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power and Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy have signed on Tuesday a project agreement to develop a 1.1 GW wind project in Egypt at an investment of $1.5 billion. The project will be located in Egypt's Gulf of Suez and Gabal el Zeit area.
ACWA Power will partner with Egypt-based engineering and construction company Hassan Allam Holding to conduct site studies and secure financing.
The facility will be designed to use advanced wind turbines with blades height to 220 metre, which helps in achieving the best use of the designated lands with most efficient way, according to company's statement.
The plant expected to launch commercially by the end of 2026. It will mitigate the impact of 2.4 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year and provide electricity to 1,080,000 households, the company announced.

This giant project comes within the framework of the strategy adopted by the Egyptian government to diversify the sources of electrical energy production and benefit from country's natural wealth, especially new and renewable energy sources, Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, said.
