Egypt's state-owned Arab Contractors (AC) has won the 2019 best construction company award in Uganda for participating in several developmental flagships there, its chairman said on Monday.
AC received the award by Uganda's Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi in recognition of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's efforts to enhance cooperation with African countries, besides AC's good reputation and pioneering role in executing more works there, Mohsen Salah added.
"Our current business volume in Uganda recorded around $200 million," Salah said.
Arab Contractors is currently implementing Masaka–Bukakata road flagship worth $46 million in Uganda, the chairman added.
Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) is on track to undertake the upgrade of the project, which involves the upgrade of a 41 km (25.5 miles) road from Masaka to Bukakata.
Masaka–Bukakata road includes the construction of interchanges, bridges, road intersections, service roads, culverts, and related infrastructure as well as the installation of signaling and safety systems.
The Islamic Development Bank provided $50 million funding for the project that also received a loan from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID).
Also, the company is currently carrying out the rehabilitation and expansion works of Kayunga Hospital worth $14 million, Salah said.
