Scores of nurses from al-Shatby hospital in Alexandria staged a protest against "Zahra wa Azwajha el-Khamsa" (Zahra and Her Five Husbands), a Ramadan TV series which, they say, presents a reprehensible image of nurses. The series stars Ghada Abdel Razeq as a nurse. The protest was supervised by the Alexandria Medical Syndicate and lasted 30 minutes. Samia Gaber, head of the Syndicate, said that the show, which depicts Zahra as a criminal who commits larceny and accepts bribes, damages the reputation of nurses. “I cannot anger nurses," Abdel Razeq said in response to the criticism. “This role does not mirror their reality or the nature of their profession." The character, she explained, is not based on a real person, but is "imaginary." In related news, the descendants of Sheikh Hammam Ibn Yusuf, a historical tribal leader from Upper Egypt, have launched a signature campaign to halt the airing of “Sheikh el-Arab Hammam," another Ramadan TV series. They claim the scenario presents flawed historical events in a way that may revive tensions among Upper Egyptian tribes. Translated from the Arabic Edition.
