Islamist MPs criticize govt statements to Parliament
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 01 - 02 - 2012

Islamist MPs criticized the government and the attorney general on Wednesday during a session discussing the martyrs and victims of the 25 January revolution.
A Salafi MP ridiculed statements by Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri and Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim made to Parliament on Tuesday. An MP from the Freedom and Justice Party demanded that the attorney general be dismissed.
“Prime Minister Ganzouri portrays himself as a hero even though he served Mubarak for more than 20 years,” said Salafi MP Mamdouh Ismail. Ismail also attacked the interior minister, saying that he is not doing a good job.
Saad al-Husseini of the FJP said the attorney general should be dismissed for improperly jailing dozens during Mubarak's rule.
MP Wahid Abdel Meguid, coordinator of the FJP-led Democratic Alliance, called for special tribunals for those accused of killing protesters. He also urged the fact-finding committee formed by Parliament to set a deadline for its final report on martyrs and victims of the 25 January revolution.
Abdel Meguid criticized the interior minister for praising the Emergency Law, saying that Ibrahim preferred relying on the law to restructuring his ministry.
MP Samir Khashaba requested that Parliament's legislative committee submit a complaint against Mubarak and other Mubarak-regime figures. That would help the attorney general charge them with crimes aside from the ones for which they are currently being tried.
Meanwhile, Wafd, The Free Egyptians, the Egyptian Social Democratic Party and the Revolution Continues Coalition, together with a number of independent MPs, decided to coordinate among themselves and create a unified legislative and supervisory agenda.
“We decided to sit close to each other during the sessions to coordinate positions among ourselves in the meeting,” independent MP Amr Hamzawy said.
