CAIRO: Egypt's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, which controls a near majority of seats in the Egyptian Parliament, won more than half of the committees of the Lower House on Tuesday. The Speaker of the Parliament Mohammed Saad el–Katatni, also a member of the FJP, announced the results of the internal elections of the parliament's sub-committees on Tuesday, where 9 out of 19 committees are to be headed by senior members of the FJP bloc. Major General Abbas Mukhaimar of the FJP has been elected the head of the National Security and Defense committee, while MP Mohammed Anwar Al Sadat, member of the Reform and Development Party, was elected the head of the Human Rights Committee, MP Akram El-Shaer of the FJP and a member of the board of the Doctors Syndicate, was elected the head of the Health Committee, MP Mahmoud Askar of the FJP for the Religious Affairs Committee, Sobhi Saleh of the FJP was elected the the undersecretary of the Legislation Committee, prominent member of the FJP, MP Essam El-Erian for the Foreign Relations Committee, Wahid Abdel Maguid of the Democratic Alliance led by the FJP along with Gamal Heshmat of the FJP were elected as undersecretaries of the Foreign Affairs Committee. Other MPs from the FJP bloc won the chairmanship of important committees such as Transportation and Traffic, Housing, Youth, labor and two undersecretaries for the Defense and National Security committee. Prominent Judge Mahmoud El-Khodairy has been elected as the head of the legislative parliamentary committee, who played a role in establishing the movement of independent judges during the former regime of President Hosni Mubarak. MP Mohamed El-Sayed Idris of the Nasserist Karama Party was elected as the head of the Arab Affairs Committee. Mohamed Abdel Moneim El-Sawy, former Minister of Culture during Prime Minister Ahmed Shafik`s cabinet, has been elected the head of the Culture and Media Committee. The ultra-conservative Salafist al-Nour Party will head the Education and Scientific Research Committee via MP Shabaan Ahmed Abdel El-Alim, while MP Tarek Dousky of the Nour Party has been elected head of the Economic Affairs Committee. A number of liberal, leftist and independent MPs announced earlier their boycott of the committee elections, denouncing the domination of the FJP members over the nominations.
