Activist accuses ''Interior Ministry snipers'' of killing Alexandria protester
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 20 - 11 - 2011

A rights activist on Sunday accused "Interior Ministry snipers" of killing Bahaa al-Sonousy, an activist who was taking part in protests Saturday in front of the Alexandria Security Directorate.
Haitham Abu Khalil, the head of Dahaya Human Rights Center, reported that several eyewitnesses have said Sonousy was "intentionally" shot dead.
Sonousy, 25, was one of the founders of the Egyptian Current Party.
Abu Khalil told Al-Masry Al-Youm Sunday that the shot that killed Sonousy came from inside the directorate building, according to eyewitnesses and videos posted on the internet. Sonousy had not engaged in any violent activity, he added.
He called for an independent investigation into Sonousy's death and the referral of the killer to a military trial.
Ahmed Iraqi Nassar, the head of Nassar Human Rights Center, decried the killing and told Al-Masry Al-Youm that he witnessed the incident. The protesters did not provoke security forces, he said.
Nassar called for the removal of the interior minister, the Alexandria security director, and all officers guilty of torturing and killing protesters. He also called for a plan to restructure the police force in the near future.
Violence that erupted in front of the Alexandria Security Directorate in Somouha on Saturday also left four others injured, according to the Health Ministry.
State-run news agency MENA, meanwhile, quoted a security source as claiming that two Salafi eyewitnesses said in an official police report that they saw a woman among a group of protesters shooting at Sonousy.
